League Report Sunday 13th December

This week the results were largely of a close nature however we will start in the Norfolk Intermediate Cup where Windmill will fly the flag for the league in the ¼’s following their resounding 9-1 win at New Buckenham. Unfortunately Camden Tavern Res. exited the competition going down 5-2 at Bayer.

Onto league affairs and the top two in division one both remain locked on level points following their wins at the weekend.

Camden Tavern with a game in hand won 2-0 against Newtown Golfers whilst El Sol needed two late goals to defeat Norton at the Subcourse 2-1.

There were three tight games in the second division. Acle Wanderers move up to second place following their 2-1 win at Gorleston Albion.

Belton United remain 4th after a close 2-1 win against Rollesby who stay third but have played more games than anyone else in the division.

Hembsy FC scored a 2-0 victory at Caesars Bar a result which takes them up to 5th place.

The third division saw the biggest win of the day as Rumbold Arms scored a resounding 12-2 win against pointless Bohemians and they will surely be in the title race once they catch up on games played as they currently lie 5th on 14 points 5 off the top with 2 games in hand.

Star & Garter are the form side of the division having won all 5 of their games to date including Sunday’s 7-1 demolition of Crown Stores.

At Ormesby a tight game ended 2-1 as Carpathians lost out to Venture Albion a result which puts the side’s level on 6 points each.

Finally by now all clubs concerned should have received the invoice for the second instalment of pitch fees. Please pay these promptly.

League Report Sunday 6th December

The deluge of rain put paid to several fixtures this week with the games at Hembsy and Rollesby off, Caesars abandoned and the non start of the two Intermediate cup fixtures involving Camden Tavern Res. and Windmill who will try again this week in their respective ties at Bayer and New Buckenham.

There were a handful of games played where in division 1 El Sol drew level with leaders Camden following their fine 3-1 win against an out of sorts Arches who saw their captain Warren Nicholls with a suspected broken ankle.

At Norton Subcourse a makeshift home side including 5 new players played the better football but they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Sunningdale Boys for whom their best player on the day Jellyman in goal dislocated his knee in the final minute and the league would like to wish both players a speedy recovery.

In the third division leaders Sun FC were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by the unbeaten Rumbold Arms.

Memphis Belton stay second after cruising to a 6-1 win at Carpathians whilst Crown Stores stay third after their 5-1 win at Venture Albion.

Monday 30 November 2009

League Report Sunday 29th November.

This week saw the action take place in the leagues two KO cup competitions with second round ties being played in the KO Cup and ¼ finals ties in the KO Plate.

Arguably the game of the day was in the KO Cup where Camden Tavern faced Windmill who are the current holders and it was Windmill who progressed by the odd goal of three.

They will face Star & Garter in the ¼ final after they comfortably won their tie against Belton United 5-1.

In an all first division encounter Arches defeated Sunningdale Boys 3-1 and will face Bohemians in the next round after they won their all third division clash 2-1 against Carpathians.

Caesars Bar helped by a hat trick from Matty Ashton had the biggest win of the round 6-1 against Sun FC and they will now travel to Hembsy FC in the last 8 as they defeated Rumbold Arms 2-0.

Gorleston Albion booked their last 8 spot with a resounding 6-2 win against Rollesby and they will face first division EL Sol who won through 3-1 at Memphis Belton as they look to once more reach the final.

The revised semi final line-up of the KO Cup will be:

Gorleston Albion v El Sol
Hembsy FC v Caesars Bar
Arches v Bohemians
Star & Garter v Windmill

In the KO Plate and Hembsy SSC were being held at 3-3 by Mariners Compass before scoring 3 late goals to win 6-3 whilst fellow first division side Norton Athletic were KO’d by second division Camden Tavern Res. Norton were winning 3-2 until Camden forced extra time with the last kick of the 90 and they took control in the added time to win through 6-4.

Newtown Golfers will be considered by many as favourites for the competition following their 7-2 win against third division Crown Stores whilst the final semi final berth goes to Acle Wanderers as they scored the odd goal of three in their tie at Venture Albion.

This week sees Camden Reserves and Windmill in Intermediate Cup action as they both face away ties so good luck to them both.

League Report 22nd November

This week saw a full league programme with some interesting results especially in the first division where Camden Tavern now hold a 3 point lead following their 7-2 win against Hembsy SSC, a game Hembsy were winning at one point.

In Second with a game in hand comes El Sol who were held to a draw by Norton Athletic in a close encounter on Green Lane.

Archers are third and followed up last weeks fine display with a disappointing 2-1 reverse at Newtown Golfers who themselves could be in the race should they win their 3 games in hand on the leaders.

The second division already looks over as Windmill lead Rollesby by 4 points with two games in hand. They were however given there sternest test of the season so far as they notched the only goal against Acle Wanderers whilst Rollesby slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Caesars Bar for whom Thomas Rowley netted a hat trick.

Gorleston Albion’s resurgence continued as they thumped Camden Tavern Res. 6-2 whilst Hembsy FC hauled themselves of the bottom thanks to their fine 2-0 win against Belton United.

Sun FC continue to march on as they heaped more misery on Crown Stores after a 2-0 win, Crown who started the season with 4 straight wins have now lost 3 on the bounce.

Memphis Belton are second following their 4-1 victory against Mariners Compass whilst Carpathians picked up their second win as they convincingly beat pointless Bohemians 8-1.

The final game in the division was a real humdinger as Rumbold Arms beat Venture Albion 5-4 at Burgh Castle.

This week sees the next rounds of the KO Cup and KO Plate so good luck to all teams.

Sunday League Report 15th November

The top 3 places in the first division are separated by just two points following this weekends round of matches. Camden Tavern defeat leaders El Sol 2-0 to jump into pole position on ten points with El Sol sitting second on 9 points.

In third come Arches who gave Norton a lesson on Mill Lane running out 7-3 victors after storming into a 4-0 interval lead including a hat-trick for Louis Holdsworth.

As is the tightness of the division Hembsy who recorded a 3-1 win in their derby match with Sunningdale jump up 3 places into 4th on 4 points but they have played more games than anyone else. Sunningdale remain rooted to the bottom and still pointless, this being their 4th straight loss.

The battles between the top two sides in the second division turned out to be a non contest as Windmill ran out 7-1 winners at Rollesby as the two sides swap places. Even at this early stage it looks like the remainder of the division are playing for second and Acle Wanderers done their chances no harm at all with a solid 1-0 win at Belton United.

There was a terrific 2-1 win for Gorleston Albion against an out of sorts Caesars Bar who slip to the foot of the table following Camden Tavern Reserves tight 3-2 win against Hembsy.

Sun FC remain top of the third division despite being inactive whereas Star & Garter closed the gap to 3 points as they maintained their perfect start with a 7-2 win against the youthful Mariners Compass.

Memphis Belton remain in the mix following their fine 5-2 win at Crown Stores for whom the wheels seem to have come off following their fine start to the season.

Rumbold Arms who are behind on their games compared to the rest of the division recorded a 3-1 win against Carpathians whilst finally Venture Albion netted their first win by a single goal at Bohemians.

On Monday the league held a club meeting at which draws were made for the two KO competitions.

The ¼ final line-up of the KO Cup will be:

Gorleston Albion/Rollesby v Memphis Belton/El Sol
Rumbold Arms/Hembsy FC v Crown Stores/Sun FC
Sunningdale Boys/Arches v Bohemians/Carpathians
Star & Garter/Belton United v Camden Tavern/Windmill

The ¼ final of the KO Plate which will be played next week sees:

Following the entire abandonment of all fixtures on the 3rd October, this week there was still a ban on council pitches but some games did take place where clubs have their own private pitches and all the action took place in the Norfolk County Cups.

In the Senior Cup there was a good 3-2 victory for Sunningdale Boys away at Hainford whilst Arches bowed out in extra time losing 3-1.

Norton Athletic were given a tall order following the dismissal of their keeper as early as the third minute and they went on to lose 4-1 at Earlham United.

Ceasars Bar progresses in the Intermediate Cup winning 3-09 at Deopham whilst Rollesby were unlucky to lose by a single goal at Tilney Royals, a game in which Rollesby struck the woodwork twice. Hembsy FC were bowled over by the Globe Bowls Club 7-1.

Onto the Junior Cup where Memphis Belton recorded a good 4-0 victory over Labas. Unfortunately for the league Crown Stores lost 5-2 at Briston and Sun FC suffered a 5-1 defeat to Thetford Abbey United.

All games scheduled in the county competitions last week that were not played will now take place this Sunday.

Clubs are reminded that the scores should be phoned through to Glyn Gray by no later than 6pm on the day of the match. Failure to do so will result in a fine. Glyn can be contacted on 01493 651261 or 07504 991058.

The Great Yarmouth Sunday league sponsored by Aston Berry got under way this weekend with most team involved in the league KO Cup which did produce a couple of upsets and plenty of goals.

There were two first division sides that were knocked out by second division opposition as Belton United defeated Nothing Special 3-2 and Ceasars Bar scored the only goal in their tie with Norton Athletic.

The game of the round was probably at Acle High School where Acle Wanderers quickly raced into a 3-0 lead and missed a penalty but somehow Star & Garter from the third division fought back to win 6-5 to knockout their second division opponents.

In the two remaining ties Rumbold Arms had a comfortable 6-0 success at Crown Stores and Carpathians ran out 6-1 winners against Venture Albion.
