Sunday League Report 12th December

After the dreadful weather of recent weeks we finally returned to action with teams playing in all manner of competitions.

Starting with the county cups and Rollesby’s tie at North Walsham was the one game that didn’t go ahead and the teams will try again this week.

The Norfolk Intermediate cup will not be heading to Yarmouth this season as the league’s final three representatives were all knocked out.

Martham slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Norwich side DCS Rapid in their third round replay whilst in the 4th round Venture Albion found Acle Rangers Reserves too strong as they lost 7-2.

In a tighter affair Gt Yarmouth White Sox succumbed to an extra time goal in their tie with Heartsease as they lost 4-3.

Moving onto the divisional cups and three of the semi finalists are known in the first division as Camden Tavern cruised to a 8-0 win at Memphis Belton whilst Gt Yarmouth Sunday also kept a clean sheet in defeating Star & Garter 5-2.

Joining them in the last four are Hembsy FC who won their derby game against the Sports & Social club 5-2.

In the second division cup there was a thrilling game between Camden Tavern Reserves and Sun FC with the Camden side winning 7-5. Gorleston Albion Reserves are also through after a more comfortable 10-1 rout at Leisureland.

In the League KO cup Acle Wanderers entertained Lichfield Arms and won through 2-1 to book their place in the second round.

Finally moving onto league matches where in the first division El Sol won by the odd goal of five at Gorleston Albion in the first division and Gorleston Rangers beat Mariners Compass 7-2 in the second division.

Clubs are reminded that the scores should be phoned through by the home team to Glyn Gray by no later than 6pm on the day of the match. Failure to do so will result in a fine of £25 as per rule 11b in the handbook. Glyn can be contacted on 01493 651261 or 07504 991058.

Also all clubs have to submit a result card to registrations secretary Steve Bishop for any competitive match they play by the Wednesday following the game. Failure to do so will result in a fine of £20.

The fines and rules are clearly stated in the hand book and already this season we have had to issue several fines for clubs not adhering to the requirements of running a side within this league.

League Report 21st November

The third round of the County Cups saw mixed fortunes for the leagues teams.

In the Senior cup we only have 1 guaranteed team through however there are still possibilities that Rollesby and Windmill could join them.

El Sol are the team definitely through after their fine 4-1 win at Qubec Rovers.

Rollesby looked set to join them as they were cruising to a 5-1 win at North Walsham Town however the game was abandoned in the 69th minute and it look like Norfolk County will order the game to be replayed.

Windmill forced a replay as they held last year’s winners AFC Wanderers to a 2-2 draw despite playing for around 50 minutes with ten men.

We did lose two sides as Camden Tavern lost to the only goal at Dog House and Gt Yarmouth Town lost 3-1 at Poringland Wanderers.

In the Intermediate cup Yarmouth White Sox and Venture Albion keep the flag flying for the league with comfortable victories. White Sox returned from Rib Rovers with a 5-0 success whilst Venture disposed of AFC Oak 3-0.

Martham will get to try again as they were held to a 1-1 draw by DCS Rapid whilst Gorleston Rangers were dumped out losing 6-2 to Moles Rest.

In the first division there were victories for Acle Wanderers and Hembsy who both recorded 3-1 wins against Gorleston Albion and Star & Garter respectively.

Bohemians racked up a comprehensive 9-0 victory against Carpathians in the second division whilst Gorleston Albion Reserves edged a 3-2 win against Lichfield Arms. Finally Sun FC picked up three points in defeating Mariners Compass 6-2.

Clubs are reminded that the scores should be phoned through by the home team to Glyn Gray by no later than 6pm on the day of the match. Failure to do so will result in a fine of £25 as per rule 11b in the handbook. Glyn can be contacted on 01493 651261 or 07504 991058.

League Report 10th October

The main action this week centered on the first rounds of the divisional knockout cups.

In the first division the tie of the round was on Green Lane where El Sol met Camden Tavern and it was the Camden side that progressed thanks to their 4-1 win.

Gt Yarmouth Town had no trouble in winning their tie at Acle Wanderers where they ran out 6-2 victors. The tie at Burgh Castle between Star & Garter and Gorleston needed extra time after the tie finished 2-2; however it was Star that scored in the added period to win through 3-2.

In the second division cup the game of the day came on the Beaco where two of the division’s big guns clashed and Camden Tavern Reserves and Bohemians produced a thriller with Camden winning by the odd goal of seven.

Yarmouth White Sox had a more comfortable 5-1 win against Carpathians whilst Martham Sunday returned from Mariners Compass with their place in the second round thanks to a 3-0 win.

A tight game ensued between Venture Albion and Sun FC and it was Sun that scored the only goal of the tie to win through one nil.

There were two league games played in the first division where Windmill remained top of the pile following their 9-1 thrashing of Hembsy SSC and in second come Rollesby after they defeated Memphis Belton 4-0.

There was just the one league game played in the second division and what a game it was as Leisureland between Lichfield Arms 4-3.

League Report 26th September

After last weeks County cup action, this week we returned to league action and both divisions have new leaders.

Heading the first division for the first time are Windmill who defeated previous occupants Rollesby 3-1 to take over the mantle with three wins from three.

Matching their perfect record are Gt Yarmouth Town Sunday whom recorded a 5-1 success against Acle Wanderers.

El Sol picked up their first points of the season following their 10-1 win against Gorleston Albion as did Hembsy FC who returned from Star & Garter with a good 5-2 win.

The match at Hembsy between the Sports & Social club and Camden Tavern was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The new leaders of division two are Martham who exchanged places with Yarmouth White Sox by virtue of a better goal difference following their 12-2 rout at bottom side Carpathians who are pointless after their 5 games played so far.

Yarmouth White Sox defeated Mariners Compass 6-1.

Bohemians have made a fantastic start to the season and made it four wins from four following their narrow 3-2 win at Sun FC who have lost all four games played to date.

In what looks to be an exciting division Camden Tavern Reserves have also maintained their perfect record winning their third game 7-0 against Lichfield Arms.

Gorleston Albion Reserves who appeared to have strengthened their squad picked up their first win running out 8-2 winners against Gorleston Rangers.

The final result saw Leisureland pick up their first win 3-2 against Venture Albion.

Slow start for Sunday League

The Gt Yarmouth & District Sunday League got off to a slow start at the weekend as all the games on council pitches were postponed as due to the deluge of rain they were too wet to mark out!

This left the league with just 3 games played on village pitches.

In the first division Rollesby beat Memphis Belton 5-2 whilst Hembsy SSC handed Star & Garter a home win as they were unable to field a side.

There was a clash of two new sides in the second division as Martham and Yarmouth White Sox shared the points in a 2-2 draw.

Another new side Gorleston Rangers came back from Ormesby with a 4-1 win against Carpathians to get their season off to a perfect start.

Let’s hope that we can complete a full programme of fixtures this week.

Clubs are reminded that the scores should be phoned through by the home team to Glyn Gray by no later than 6pm on the day of the match. Failure to do so will result in a fine of £25 as per rule 11b in the handbook. Glyn can be contacted on 01493 651261 or 07504 991058.

In another change it was agreed at the AGM that to make things fairer for all clubs especially those based on the village pitches that for EACH and EVERY match played the referees fee will be split 50/50.

League Report 02nd May

Windmill retained the KO Cup last Thursday with a 5-0 win against Gorleston Albion who put up a brave show and were well in the contest until 3 late goals.

Windmill followed this up with a 2-0 victory against Belton United to move to the top of division two and they now need just one more win from their 4 remaining games to secure back to back titles and promotions.

El Sol were handed the three points in the first division as Sunningdale failed to fulfil the fixture and this handed them second place in the first division that was won by Camden Tavern. Newtown Golfers ended third with Arches 4th.

Star & Garter secured the third division title following their 13-3 drubbing over Crown Stores. This made it 13 straight win and they will now be looking to complete the season as 100 percenters by winning their three remaining fixtures. Elswhere Memphis Belton slipped to a 4-1 defeat at Sun FC but look to have secured 2nd place. They can be caught by Rumbold Arms who defeated Mariners Compass 5-1 but for that to happen Rumbold need to win both their remaining fixtures by a plus 17 goal margin.

The league would like to hear from any new clubs that are interested in joining the league for the 2010/11 season. Please contact league secretary Peter Futter 01493 661203 in the first instance.

Clubs are reminded that the scores should be phoned through to Glyn Gray by no later than 6pm on the day of the match. Failure to do so will result in a fine. Glyn can be contacted on 01493 651261 or 07504 991058.

This was scored by Camden Tavern who defeated El Sol 1-0 to win the first division cup whilst Rollesby and Windmill couldn’t be separated after extra time with the village side winning the lottery of the penalty shootout to lift the division two cup.

In the first division Hembsy SSC and Archers finished their season with the pub side running out 5-2 winners a result that lifts them to 3rd in the table however should El Sol net a point from their last game against Sunningdale they will retake 3rd and by collecting all three points would finish as runners up.

In the second division Camden Tavern Res. beat a sorry Hembsy FC 11-1 whilst in the third division Star & Garter took a step nearer the title following their 6-1 win at Sun FC. Memphis Belton racked up a good 5-0 win against Rumbold Arms a result that secure them at least second place.

By the time these note are published the winner of the knockout cup will be know and this will be reported next week.

Sunday League Report 18th April

This week there were just a handful of matches played as the season nears its conclusion.

Newtown Golfers put themselves in the driving seat for second place following their 2-1 win at Sunningdale Boys whilst El Sol were being held to a 1-1 draw by Arches however should El Sol beat Sunningdale in their final league game they will take second spot on goal difference.

In Division Two another side struggling for players Caesars Bars went down to a heavy 12-1 defeat to Camden Tavern Res. however credit should go to the 7 Caesars players that took to the field.

The third division sees new leaders as Star & Garter took advantage of Memphis Belton’s 1-0 reverse to Mariners Compass as their 6-4 win over fellow challengers Rumbold Arms moves them to the summit.

Windmill stay on course for the treble as they scored a narrow 2-1 win against Belton United in the division two league cup to book their final spot where they will take on Rollesby this week.

Sunday League report 11th April.

This season’s knockout cup final will be an all second division affair as both Windmill and Gorleston Albion won through their semi finals ties. Windmill defeated fellow second division side Caesars Bar 5-1 whilst Gorleston Albion again knocked out first division opposition as they defeated Arches 3-1. The final will be held on Thursday 29th April at The Wellesley Stadium.

In the first division league cup semi final Camden Tavern whacked a sorry Norton Athletic 12-1 to book their final place against El Sol (25th April) whilst for Norton it looks to be the end of the road for them as a team following a season of struggle.

The good times look set to return for Rollesby who reached the second division league cup final following their 4-1 win against Camden Tavern Res. and they will square off against either Windmill or Belton United whom play this week.

Onto league affairs and El Sol kept their slim title hopes alive following their 3-1 win against Newtown Golfers. Sol can only draw level on points with Camden so Camden need to eek a point from this weeks clash at Hembsy to put it to bed whilst for a Golfers their current 2nd place is the best they can now hope for but with a game in hand Sol have to be favourites for the runners up berth.

In the second division the Acle v Hembsy derby ended in Hembsy’s favour 5-2 but both sides will finish mid table.

The third division is still no nearer conclusion however Star & Garter racked up their 10th straight win to stay within a point of Memphis Belton who have played 3 games more. Star defeated Venture Albion 7-1 whilst Belton beat Carpathians 4-1.

Rumbold Arms remain unbeaten but saw their hope slide further away from them as they were held 2-2 by Mariners Compass.

Clubs are reminded that the scores should be phoned through to Glyn Gray by no later than 6pm on the day of the match. Failure to do so will result in a fine. Glyn can be contacted on 01493 651261 or 07504 991058.

Hembsy SSC & Rumbold pick up first trophies

The first two pieces of silverware were decided this week on The Wellesley where Hembsy SSC and Rumbold Arms both came through tight games by an odd goal.

In the KO Plate final it was Hembsy SSC that prevailed 3-2 against the favourites Newtown Golfers whilst in the third division cup final Rumbold Arms scored the only goal against Memphis Belton.

There were only 5 other matches that took place with the pick being the first semi final of the first division cup where El Sol scored the only goal in a tight game against Archers to book their final place against either Camden Tavern or Norton Athletic whom meet this week.

In the final division two group game Windmill racked up a 9-0 win against Camden Tavern Res. to win the group and book their semi final slot.

Of the league matches played, in division 2 Hembsy FC and Caesars Bars shared the points following their 2-2 draw whilst in the third division title favourites Star & Garter edged the 3 points against Sun FC by winning 3-2 whilst the biggest cheer goes to Bohemians who picked up their first 3 points of a long season courtesy of their 4-3 win at Mariners Compass.

League Report 28th March

We start this week in the division one league cup where Arches defeated Hembsy SSC 5-1, however they needed to win by 6 clear goals in order to win their group so they will face El Sol in the semi final this weekend with Camden Tavern hosting Norton Athletic on a date to be arranged.

Onto league action and El Sol went down by the odd goal of 5 to Newtown Golfers, a result that now puts Golfers in command of second place but the chances of winning the division are slim with Camden needing just a point to retain their crown.

In the second division Windmill lost for the first time going down 3-2 against Belton United but with 4 games in hand and just two points behind leaders Rollesby they remain strong favourites for the title. Caesars Bar defeated Gorleston Albion in a tight game 2-1 whilst Camden Tavern Res. inflicted a 6-2 defeat on Acle Wanderers.

The third division saw Star & Garter make it 8 from 8 with a 6-0 win against Mariners Compass. Joining them on 24 points come Rumbold Arms who won 2-0 against Crown Stores whilst Carpathians inflicted a 14th straight defeat on a young Bohemians side 3-2.

This week sees the leagues first finals take place with the Division Three cup final between Memphis Belton & Rumbold Arms at 11am followed by the KO Plate final between Hembsy SSC & Newtown Golfers at 1.30pm. League Report 22nd February

Despite the torrential downpour 7 of the 9 scheduled fixtures produced results as the league now starts to battle of how to arrange the remaining fixtures in the few weeks of the season that remain.

In the first division Camden Tavern must now be firm favourites to win the title as they opened up a 6 point lead over nearest challengers El Sol following their 5-0 win at basement side Sunningdale Boys. El Sol do have a game in hand but with Camden finishing the season against the leagues struggling sides the title is surely theirs for the taking.

Struggling Norton Athletic who are trying so hard to finish the season were whacked 7-1 by an impressive Newtown Golfers side and this after taking an early lead.

The game didn’t get started at Hembsy as the pitch was deemed unfit.

There was just one match in division two as Belton United eased to a 6-0 win against Gorleston Albion whilst in the divisional cup Rollesby saw past Acle Wanderers 3-1 to head the group.

The big game of the day was in the third division where the two unbeaten sides clashed on the Beaco as Star & Garter put their 100% record on the line at Rumbold Arms. Unfortunately the match was abandoned after 60 minutes with the scores locked at 1-1.

Memphis Belton stretched their lead to 3 points following a 2-0 win against second placed Sun but they are just 4 points ahead of Star having played 4 games more.

Venture Albion won for the 5th time as they secured a narrow 2-1 win against Carpathians whilst an improved Mariners Compass chalked up a 3-1 win at Crown Stores.

This week weather permitting the league should no one of the finalists in the KO Plate as Camden Res take on first division Newtown Golfers on the Beaco.

As usual results to Glyn Gray 01493 651261 by 6pm.

Sunday League Report 14th Feb

The leagues last remaining County Cup hope Windmill were defeated at the semi final stage in the Intermediate Cup 6-3 AET by Globe Bowls Club in a bad tempered game. This was their first competitive defeat since they formed last season so can be proud of their efforts but will no doubt feel extremely disappointed not to have reached the final.

In league action all eyes were on the top of the table clash in the first division between El Sol and Camden Tavern however both sides failed to break the deadlock meaning Camden’s 3 point cushion remains in tact.

Arches move up to third place after cruising to a 6-1 win at struggling Norton Athletic with Steven Hak helping himself to a hat-trick.

Hembsy SSC move off the bottom of the table after their 4-2 derby win at Sunningdale Boys.

Just two games were played in the second division Following Acle’s waterlogged pitch forcing their game with Hembsy to be postponed.

Rollesby took advantage and move back into second place with a 5-2 win at basement side Camden Tavern Res. whilst Caesars Bar defeated Belton United 3-1.

In the third division leaders Memphis Belton were on the wrong end of a crushing 6-0 thumping at the hands of title favourites Star & Garter who have won all 7 games.

Second placed Sun FC also slipped up losing 5-4 to a rejuvenated Mariners Compass. Venture Albion recorded a 4-1 success against Bohemians whilst Rumbold Arms had to work hard for the points at Carpathians winning 3-2.

As usual results to Glyn Gray 01493 651261 by 6pm.

League Report 7th Feb.

El Sol were narrowly defeated in their Senior Cup Semi Final as they went down by the only goal at Dog House in extra time and after reaching the final last time they can be proud of going so close again. Attention now falls on Windmill who on Sunday will be looking to defeat Globe Bowls Club in their Intermediate Cup Semi Final on the Beaco, so good luck to them.

They go into the match in good form having opened up a 5 point lead at the summit of the second division following their 4-0 win again Hembsy.

Camden Tavern Res still occupy bottom place but have picked up in recent weeks and this week held Belton United to a thrilling 3-3 draw. The points were also shared on Mill Lane as Gorleston Albion and Rollesby drew 2-2 whilst 60 year old Geoff Mingay was the hero for Caesars Bars as he scored a top corner corker to help his side pick up the 3 points following their 3-2 win against Acle Wanderers.

Seven seemed to be the magic number in the third division in which the title looks to close to call with no less than 4 teams in with a chance. Memphis Belton move ahead of the inactive Sun FC following their 7-1 demolition of Crown Stores. Star & Garter made it 6 out of 6 as they defeated Bohemians also 7-1 whilst Rumbold Arms stay in contention following their narrow 2-1 success against Venture Albion.

The final game in the division saw Mariners Compass rack up an impressive 7-2 win against Carpathians.

In the first division and Camden Tavern caulked up an impressive 6-2 win against Arches who incidentally were leading 2-1 at one stage and Newtown Golfers consolidated 3rd place following their 3-1 win against Sunningdale Boys.

The Hembsy SSC v Norton Athletic match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
