League Report 1st May 2011

Gt Yarmouth Town Sunday won they Aston Shaw KO Plate sponsored by the Gorleston Albion Public House following a thrilling game at Emerald Park.

They were playing a spirited second division side in Bohemians whom twice took the lead although Yarmouth hit back on both occasions to force extra time before eventually finding the winner to lift the trophy.

Unfortunately for the league they joy then turned to frustration as two days later they advised the league that they would be unable to raise a team for their remaining 4 fixtures and would be withdrawing from the competition with immediate effect. By the time you read this the league would have had an emergency committee meeting to decide on the action to be taken.

Onto the few league games played and El Sol completed their season with a goal less draw against KO Cup finalists Rollesby.

Acle Wanderers won 5-2 at Hembsy and Camden Tavern won 10-2 at Star & Garter and the league is all set for the mouth watering title deciders this week where leaders Windmill take on Camden where a win for Windmill will secure the title.

Just the one game played in the second division where Martham secured the division two title following their 5-0 win at Leisureland. This completes a league and club double for the side in their debut season in the league.

League Report 24th April 2011

Windmill took the honours of the first division cup final after beating Gt Yarmouth Sunday 3-0. They will now look to follow this up with the first division title in which they are now a single point behind Camden after beating El Sol 5-2.

The game of the day was played out at Acle High School where Gt Yarmouth Sunday defeated Acle Wanderers 5-4.

Memphis Belton’s sorry season came to its conclusion as they ended their campaign with a heavy 8-0 defeat to Gorleston Albion whilst Hembsy failed to raise a side and therefore handed Rollesby the points.

Martham moved to within 1 point of the second division title after their 6-3 win at Gorleston Rangers. They can only be caught by Yarmouth White Sox who won 3-1 at Leisureland. White Sox need to win both their remaining games and for Martham to lose both of theirs as well as overturning a goal difference of 15 in their favour.

Bohemians geared up for the KO Plate final with a narrow 1-0 win at Sun whilst Carpathians picked up only their second win of the season in beating Lichfield Arms 3-2.

Camden Tavern Reserves poor run of form continued as they lost 4-3 at Venture Albion.

League Report 10th April

The first division is looking increasingly likely to come down to the second clash between Camden Tavern and Windmill following this weekends fixtures which saw Camden run out 7-0 winners against Gorleston Albion whilst Windmill will be given the points following Hembsy’s failure to raise a team.

The other game in the top division saw Star & Garter move out of the drop zone above Hembsy following their narrow 2-1 win at Memphis Belton.

The leaders of the second division Martham extended their lead to six points following their hard fought 2-1 win against Bohemians whilst the team in second Camden Tavern failed to raise a side handing Yarmouth White Sox the points. This means White Sox now join Camden in joint second on 41 points.

Elsewhere in the division an enthralling game was played out between Gorleston Albion Reserves and Carpathians with the Albion side winning 7-6.

Lichfield Arms geared up for their plate semi final clash by winning 6-2 against Leisureland whilst Sun FC and Gorleston Rangers shared the point following their 1-1 draw.

On Thursday evening Martham Sunday won the first silverware of the season by putting in an accomplished performance to defeat Camden Tavern Reserves 5-0 in the division two league cup final.

In front of a large crowd at Emerald Park Martham scored the only goal of the first half however the young guns proved to be too strong in the second period as they added four unanswered goals to complete the first of what they hope will be a league and cup double.

The next final is on Thursday as Gt Yarmouth Town Sunday take on Windmill in the first division league cup in a match kindly sponsored by Peter Self.

The game is once more at Emerald Park with a 7.30pm kick off and admission is £3 adults and £1.50 for OAP’s/Juniors. Please come along and show your support.

League Report 3rd April 2011.

With the league entering the final month of the season, some teams appear to be struggling for players as both Gt Yarmouth Sunday and Gorleston Rangers failed to fulfil their fixtures. There is a bit if irony here as both teams were due to play the leaders of their respective divisions in Camden Tavern and Martham who will both be awarded walkover wins.

Its concerning to the league that if some teams think they can’t win on a particular week then they don’t bother to turn up.

Of the remaining games played Windmill boosted their challenge and goal difference with a 13-0 rout over a sporting Memphis Belton who despite having a difficult season are managing to fulfil their fixtures.

El Sol’s challenge took a dent as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Acle Wanderers whilst Rollesby picked up another 3 points in winning 7-3 against Gorleston Albion.

With Martham inactive Camden Tavern move clear in second place following their 4-2 win over Gorleston Albion Reserves Yarmouth White Sox were hammered 5-1 by a rejuvenated Venture Albion, this seemingly ends White Sox hopes of the title as they are now 6 point adrift and in 4th place.

Lichfield Arms had a fine 7-3 win at Mariners Compass whilst there was a first win of the season for basement side Carpathians whom defeated Leisureland 2-1.

League report Sunday 20th March 2011

This year’s knockout cup final will be played between Camden Tavern and Rollesby following this weeks semi finals.

Camden Tavern were facing Acle Wanderers for the second time in three weeks after previously beating them 3-2 in a league encounter and they repeated that scoreline in their semi-final after being made to work hard for their final place.

The other semi final saw holders Windmill’s recent domination of the competition ended as they were beaten 3-1 by Rollesby. After not losing a GY Sunday league game for 2 ½ seasons that is now two straight defeats for Windmill, are they starting to feel the pressure? Well done to Rollesby whose final appearance caps a fine season for them.

The rearrange first division league cup semi final between Hembsy and Gt Yarmouth Sunday was played and a rather one sided affair led to Yarmouth booking a final against Windmill following their 7-0 win.

Moving onto the knockout plate and both quarter finals that were played resulted in narrow 2-1 wins as Bohemians beat Venture Albion and Lichfield Arms beat Carpathians to book semi final slots.

In the first division there was one league game played which saw El Sol defeat Memphis Belton 4-0 to move to the top of the table although they have played 2 and 3 games more than challengers Camden and Windmill.

The second division saw an intriguing top of the table clash between Yarmouth White Sox and Martham and the points were shared following a 2-2 draw. This probably favours Martham more as they remain top on goal difference but do have the benefit of a game in hand.

The league would like to hear from any new clubs who may be interested in joining the league for the 2011/12 season. Please contact secretary Peter Futter 07988 308086 in the first instance.

League Report 13th March

The big game this week was the top of the table clash in the first division between Camden Tavern and Windmill and it was Camden who prevailed by 3 goals to 1 to inflict a first ever league defeat on Windmill. Windmill though still have the title in their own hands as winning all their remaining games including the return fixture against Camden would see them champions.

El Sol took advantage of Windmill’s defeat by moving back above them into second place following their 8-1 dismantling over Acle Wanderers. Sol have played two games more than Windmill and a game more than Camden whom they are a point behind.

Gt Yarmouth Town returned to action with a 4-1 win against Rollesby whilst Memphis Belton picked up their first win of the season after gaining revenge for last weeks 6-1 defeat by Hembsy by beating them 2-0.

The final game in the division was an exciting affair that saw Gorleston Albion beat Star & Garter 3-2.

The second division title race is now in the hands of Martham following their 10-0 hammering of Mariners Compass. This follows more dropped points for Camden Tavern Reserves who let slip a 3 goal lead against Venture Albion who fought back for a point.

Yarmouth White Sox also slipped up in losing 2-1 against Sun FC whilst Bohemians are up to third after trouncing Leisureland 7-0.

League Report 6th March

The surprise result of the day came in the second division as Camden Tavern Reserves challenge for the title took a severe dent as they were beaten 4-3 by Leisureland, a result that moves them out of the bottom two.

The leaders remain Yarmouth White Sox who pull three points clear of the inactive Martham following their 4-0 win against Gorleston Rangers.

Bohemians are still in with a chance but have played two games more then the leaders and this week they won 7-3 at Lichfield Arms.

Elsewhere Mariners Compass slip into the bottom two as they lost 3-1 against Venture Albion and Sun FC scored the only goal in their game with Carpathians who remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table by ten points.

The first division saw Windmill rack up a massive 14-0 win against Gorleston Albion as they remain the only side in the league yet to drop a point. They do however remain a point behind the leaders Camden Tavern whom won 3-2 against Acle Wanderers. Camden have played a game more and the two square up this weekend in what should be another cracking encounter.

El Sol were handed the points as Gt Yarmouth Sunday failed to raise a side whilst Rollesby managed the only goal in a tight affair with Star & Garter.

Memphis Belton whose season of struggle continues slipped to a 6-1 reverse against Hembsy FC.

League Report 20th February 2011

It was a red letter day for Windmill who picked up six league points. Their original fixture against Star & Garter was called off by Star after they could not raise a side so Windmill picked up a walkover. Then in a rearranged fixture they went to Hembsy and won by a 17-0 margin to make it eight wins from eight games played, as result that sees them just a point behind leaders Camden Tavern who hit Memphis Belton for a 12-0 scoreline. Camden have played a game more and the two sides clash this week in the first division cup semi final.

El Sol are also a point behind the leaders albeit from a game more as they picked up a good 5-2 win at Gt Yarmouth Sunday whilst Rollesby defeated Acle Wanderers by the same scoreline.

The trio of clubs at the top of the third division all picked up three points. White Sox remain top following their 4-2 win at Gorleston Albion but Camden Tavern Reserves and Martham all closed the goal difference following their 7-2 and 6-2 wins at Carpathians and Venture Albion.

The three remaining games all had plenty of goal mouth incidents as Bohemians beat Gorleston Rangers 3-2, Mariners Compass beat Leisureland 4-2 the same scoreline that Lichfield beat Sun by.

Would all clubs please note that there is a full club meeting on Sunday, 8pm at The Gorleston Albion Public House.

Hembsy SSC Fold

The league is sad to report the withdrawel of first division Hembsy SSC.

The club has cited the reason lack of player reliability as the main reason. Hembsy who had been struggling all season took the action as they failed to fulfil their second fixture of the season despite having 33 players registered.

The league has deleted all the records of games played to date.

League Report 24th January

El Sol were forced to replay their Norfolk Senior cup tie with Wymondham Rangers due to an administrative error and this it was the Norwich side that won scoring the solitary goal.

El Sol will no doubt be left with a bad taste in their mouth following their initial 2-1 victory last week, before the county intervention.

Windmill won through to the semi finals of the division one cup as they beat Rollesby 2-0 whilst in the second division cup there are semi final places for Martham whom defeated Gorleston Rangers 9-1 and Lichfield Arms who surprisingly beat Yarmouth White Sox 3-2.

Moving into the KO Cup and Camden Tavern eased into the last 8 with an emphatic 11-0 victory against Hembsy FC whilst their was a surprising win for Gorleston Albion in their tie at Yarmouth Sunday as they netted the only goal to win 1-0.

Their was one fixture played in the first division where Acle Wanderers went nap against Memphis Belton winning 5-0 and in the second division Camden Tavern Reserves are the new leaders following their 6-2 win against Carpathians. They have a two point advantage over Yarmouth White Sox and Martham having played the same number of games.

Bohemians remain in contention after defeating Venture Albion 3-1 whilst the points were shared between Sun FC and Mariners Compass following their 2-2 stalemate.

Following the managements committee meting on Monday we can now advise of the next round of cup draws:

Windmill are the new leaders of the first division following their comfortable 6-0 win against Acle Wanderers. They leapfrog El Sol who were due to be in Senior Cup action however their tie against Wymondham Rangers will now be played this week due to a waterlogged pitch.

6-1 was also the score at Hembsy as the Sports and Social club were beaten by Gorleston Rangers. Hembsy remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Star & Garter failed to show for their game at Memphis Belton so Memphis pick up the points.

In the second division there were wins for the top two. Leaders Yarmouth White Sox ran out 11-1 victors against Leisureland whilst Martham in second inflicted a first defeat of the season on Camden Tavern Reserves as they ran out 5-3 winners and as such move above Camden into second place in the table.
